Use the database to reset a password:
1. Go to phpMyAdmin. This is usually accessible through the control panel provided by your webhost. Contact your webhost if you cannot find the link to it.
2. Click on the database used for your Joomla site. (If you have more than one database and you do not know which one your Joomla site is using, you can find this on the Joomla Control Panel -> Global Configuration -> Server -> Database Settings.)
3. Scroll down to the users table. This is usually named 'jos_users' but your installation could be using a different prefix, e.g., 'j15_users'. The prefix is designated during the installation process.
4. Click on the Browse icon for the users table.
5. Find the row for the user whose password you wish to reset and click on the Edit icon for that row.
6. On the list of fields for the chosen row, find the 'password' field, and in the 'Function' column select 'MD5' from the dropdown.
7. In the text box on this row (to the right) type in the password you want to use.
8. Scroll down to the 'Go' button and click it.
9. The new password is now set.
