Joomla has a Lost Password feature for users who have forgotten their password.  Even if you are the administrator, you  can use this to reset your password, assuming that the function has not been turned off.  If so, you can change the password through the database (see Reset Admin Password).

1. In the address bar of the browser, at the end of the website's URL, add the following: /?option=com_user&view=reset

-- for example: www.mydomain.com/?option=com_user&view=reset

2. Type in the email address on your account (the address used when you registered). Click Submit.

3. Check your email inbox for an email from the website. The email will contain a "token" (a long string of letters and numbers).

4. Copy the token and paste it into the token box on the website to confirm your account and click Submit.

5. You can now set a new password for your account.
