The navigation menus from the Menu Manager are published on the website as a module.

1. Open the Module Manager (Extensions -> Module Manager).

2. In the dropdown called "Select Type", choose mod_mainmenu. This will show a list of all the menu modules that are set up on your site. If the menu you want is not yet on the list, create a new one:

a. Click on the New icon.

b. Select Menu as the module type.

c. Type in a Title.

d. Under Module Parameters select the menu under the Menu Name dropdown.

e. Save.

3. Select the module from the list of modules in the Module Manager and click the Edit icon.

4. Details: This section is standard for all modules. For information about this section of options, please see the Module Basics tutorial.

5. Menu Assignment: This section is standard for all modules. For information about this section of options, please see the Module Basics tutorial.

6. Parameters for the Menu module:

a. Module Parameters:

1. Menu Name: choose the menu from the dropdown

2. Menu Style: choose "List" for Joomla 1.5. The other options are for compatibility with Joomla 1.0 styles.

3. Start Level and End Level: You can indicate here whether you want the parent item links and/or subitem links displayed. These are usually set to 0 to show all parent and subitem links. This would be used for a Split Menu System, where the sublinks are only displayed when you are on the parent link's page. For more information on how a Split Menu System works, see the Split Menu System tutorial.

4. Always show sub-menu Items: This is used for vertical menus. Selecting Yes will show submenus as an indented item under the Parent item (depending on your template style). Selecting No will hide the sublink until the parent item is clicked.

5. Target position: if the link is a popup window, the position and size of the popup window can be set here, for example, "top=50, left=50, width=500, height=350".

b. Advanced Parameters:

1. Show Whitespace: Indicate whether spaces, line breaks, etc., are shown in the source code. This does not affect the appearance of the menu.

2. Caching: Choose "Global Caching" to use the cache settings from the Global Configuration, or "No Caching" to turn off caching for this module. See What is cache? for more information.

3. Menu ID Tag: For CSS styling of the menu, an id attribute for the ul tag can be set here.

4. Menu Class Suffix: For CSS styling of the menu, a class suffix can be set here.

5. Module Class Suffix: For CSS styling of the module, a class suffix can be set here.

6. Maximum Menu Depth: The maximum level of sublinks to display can be set here.

c. Other Parameters. These are used for Legacy menu styles:

1. Show Menu Images: select whether to show images (as defined below) on menu items.

2. Menu Image Alignment: align images to the left, right, or no alignment.

3. Menu Image Link: Select if clickable link is on the image instead of the text.

4. Expand Menu: Make the submenu items visible.

5. Activate Parent: Sets an "active" ID for parent items for styling active links.

6. Full Active Highlighting: Enable link highlighting of link URL and Article for styling the active link.

7. Indent Image: Set the indent system for indenting submenu level items.

8. Indent Image 1 - 6: Select image for indented sublinks.

9. Spacer: Character to use for separating menu links when using the Legacy Horizontal style. For example, using "|" puts a vertical line between each menu item.

10. End Spacer: Character to use on the right and left ends of the Legacy Horizontal List style. For example, using "|" puts a vertical line on the left and right ends of the menu.
