If you have developed a template or component for Joomla, you can provide your customers with a custom Joomla installation package that includes your demo setup. Here's how:

1. Create a copy of your site's folders and files.

2. Delete the "configuration.php" file -- IMPORTANT!

3. Get the full Joomla!(R) installation package from Joomla.org that matches the version of Joomla on your sample site.

4. Copy the folder "installation" from the Joomla install package to the copy of your site.

5. Export a copy of your database with structure and data, with "add drop table", and save into the copy of your sample site as /installation/sql/mysql/sample_data.sql.

6. Zip the copy of your site: select all the files and folders in your sample site, right-click and select "Send To" -> "Compressed (zip) Folder" if you are using Windows. If you have WinZip, right-click and select "WinZip" -> "Add to Zip File".

Your installation package is now complete.

  1. I followed the instructions in your tutorial and have my zipped file. To install in in a new hosting account, can I just unzip the file in root directory, or do I need to install Joomla first?
  2. Joomla is already included in your zip file, so you should be able to unzip on the server and install as usual.
  3. Hello, this process only works when the sql file size is bellow 2mb. I changed the upload size limit to 100mb in php.ini but nothing happened. When i try to install my large sample data it says sql error.
