Undecided Question

Laptop power to use Joomla!
Hi there, I am new and want to learn and use Joomla. I also need to purchase a new laptop. I am thinking of premium power, $1200+. Perhaps a Dell Studio, or Studio XPS. To save money, what is a good processer speed, memory and hardrive to use Joomla, and other things, efficiently? I am thinking 4gig memory, 320gig hd with 7200 rpm? 15" or 16"?

  • The last time I gave someone advice about what computer to use this is what happened:

They didn't want to spend much money.  Dell had a system for $500.  The RAM was 500MB (this was many years ago).  I said they should get more memory.  They didn't want to spend the extra money and said they aren't using the computer for much, "just games".

So 3 years later, after they have downloaded every "free" game on the internet (too cheap to buy legitimate games), and filled their computer with spyware and adware, their computer is no longer running and does not have enough memory to run games.  And whose fault is it?  They blamed it on me!

So when I tell you what computer I like, please don't come back to me 10 years from now and tell me the computer I recommended doesn't work and doesn't have enough memory. Wink

Last year I bought a Toshiba Satellite that is one of Best Buy's Blue Label products.  I loved it so much, that I recently bought this year's version of that same laptop, so I have 2 identical laptops, one as a backup.

It has a backlit keyboard, only weighs 5 pounds, and looks great.  4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, etc.

And now it's on sale for $749 which less than I paid! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Satellite+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B2+Duo+Processor+-+Mocha/9553921.p?id=1218123209956&skuId=9553921 (Toshiba - Satellite Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor - Mocha)

I have at least 100 Joomla websites on my hard drive and templates, extensions, graphics, Adobe CS3, etc.
