- Task: This shows that the article is being edited.
- Title: Article's title
- Alias: This will be used for the page's URL when Joomla's SEF is turned on in the Global Configuration settings.
- Section: Choose a section for the article, or "Uncategorized" for no section.
- Published: If "Yes", the article will be viewable on the website; if "No" the article will not be displayed on the website as an article or on a list of articles in a section or category.
- Frontpage: If "Yes", this article will be added to the Frontpage component's list of articles.
- Category: Choose a category within the named Section, or "Uncategorized".
- Article Information:
- Article ID: Joomla.
- State: Article's state: published or unpublished
- Alias: This will be used for the page's URL when Joomla's SEF is turned on in the Global Configuration settings.
- Hits: Number of times the article has been viewed on the site. This number can be reset to 0.
- Revised: Number of times the article has been modified. Each time the Save or Apply button is clicked this number will be incremented.
- Created: Time and date the article was created.
- Modified: Time and date the article was last modified (saved).
- Author: The default author is the user who created the article. This can be changed to any other user on the site.
- Author Alias: The name of the author that is displayed on the article or list of articles on the site can be changed by typing in a name in this text box. For example, if author is user "jsmith", the name "John C. Smith" can be typed in the alias box so that this is the name that is displayed as the author.
- Access Level: "Public" will allow all visitors to the site view the article; "Registered" allows only logged in visitors to view the article; "Special" allows only users who are logged in and whose access level is above Registered to view the article (for example, an "Admin" level user).
- Created Date: The default is the date the article was created, however, this can be overwrriten with any date/time.
- Start Publishing: An article can be set to be published at a future date and time.
- Finish Publishing: An article can be set to be unpublished at a future date and time. Use "Never" in this field to keep it published until it is manually changed to unpublished.

In the Advanced Parameters section the options are "Use Global", "Hide", or "Show". The "Use Global" option means to use the setting that was given in the Article Manager's Global Configuration Settings". Choosing "Hide" or "Show" here will override the setting in the Global Configuration.
- Show Title: Option to show the title on the article's page.
- Title Linkable: Option to enable a clickable title when the title is shown in a list of articles for a category.
- Intro Text: Option to show the Intro Text when displaying a list of articles in a blog style layout.
- Section Name: Option to show the title of the Section of the article.
- Section Title Linkable: Option to make the section title link to the section page.
- Category Title: Option to show the title of the category of the article.
- Category Title Linkable: Option to make the category title link to the category page.
- Article Rating: Option to allow users to rate the article.
- Author Name: Option to display author's name with the article ("Written by ...").
- Created Date and Time: Option to display the date and time the article was created.
- Modified Date and Time: Option to display the last date and time the article was edited.
- PDF Icon: Option to display a link to create a PDF document of the article.
- Print Icon: Option to display a link to create a printable version of the article.
- Email Icon: Option to display a link to email the article.
- Content Language: Joomla language file to use for the article. The language file will display certain words and phrases in the language of choice. For example, the word(s) for "Article", "Read More", "Written By", etc., can be set in the language file.
- Key Reference: An optional key for referencing an article. For example, if you use "whats.new" as the key reference for an article you can link to it using: /index.php?option=com_content&task=findkey&keyref=tutorial.exercise, instead of the usual article id number: /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=78.
- Alternative Read More text: Override the "Read More..." text link to the full article with alternate text, such as "See Full Article". This is used in the blog layout for categories only the intro text is displayed along with a link to the complete article.
This section is for metadata specific to the article. (Metadata for the site is in the Site's Global Configuration.) Metadata is read by search engines for the purpose of indexing the site and its content.
- Description: Description of the article.
- Keywords: Enter keywords for the article, with each word or set of words separated by a comma. Keywords are case insensitive, so CAT and cat are the same. Keywords are also used by the Banner component to display banner ads appropriate for the article, and by the Related Articles module to display a list of articles with matching keywords.
- Keywords for robots: Optional keywords for robots to use.
- Author: Option to display the author's name within the metadata.
